- LAPD vs. LASD: Benefits Retirement - Officer. com
LASD and LAPD are close enough with percentages, but the big difference is the LASD full medical after 25 years Also, if you work past 30 years, you don't pay into retirement anymore (Plan "B" Safety Retirement), they are fully vested, and they match up to 4% of your pay dollar for dollar on contributions to a 401k fund (pre-tax dollars!)

LAPD vs LASD Reserves? 07-17-2017, 10:03 PM Hey Guys, I'm currently in the process with LAPD for the Reserve Officer Program, but I am also considering taking a look at LASD Reserves Besides the fact that LASD has it's own Reserve Bureau that conducts it's own backgrounds, I haven't been able to find much about the differences between the two

Like FJDave said, read through the thread and the other LASD DST Status one in the Cali forum But as for turning in your background packet, you'll head down to Monterey Park at your assigned time, fill out a crime conduct history type questionnaire, then you will turn-in your background packet

Only thing that has discouraged me from pursuing LASD is not being sent to patrol out of the academy I don't know anyone outside of those who want to be correctional officers that want to spend 6 mos - 3 years in a correctional facility
