- Solved: Bouncing a switch - Cisco Community
When I first heard this used I thought it meant shutting an interface down and then turning it on again, to clear a port-security violation and re-enable the port But then I saw a training video which referred to shutting down the port and bouncing as if they were two different things
- What do ports mean? - Cisco Community
Unit Slot Port (e g 1 1 1 on a standalone switch would be the first port on the SF500, 1 2 1 would be the first port on the SG500) So the unit refers to the position of the switch in a stack, the slot to the type of switch (1 for the SF500, 2 for the SG500) Does that make sense ? Check the below documents for reference:
- Port numbering placment - Cisco Community
- The third number (0) again has zero meaning in the case of a 9400 - The fourth number refers to the actual port number So getting back to the original question 3 0 1 refers to linecard 3, port 1 Again for a 9400 the 0 in the port numbering effectively has no meaning
- Is there a difference between designated port and root port?
Well to get things clearer, a root port is the Port that recieves the lowes cost BPDU's (Bridge Protocol Data Unit) from its root in Spanning tree topology A designated Port (for a segment) is the port that SENDS the lowest Cost BPDU's onto a Segment E G now Imagine a ring topology Three switches connected with one link to each other
- Solved: STP: Root port vs. designated port - Cisco Community
So if you have a port in the root port state, it is understood that it is connected to a port that is in a designated port state This is the case because the root port is the uplink towards the root, and the designated port is the downlink to a lower portion of the spanning tree Hope that clears things up
- what does Gigabit Interface 1 0 1 indicates? - Cisco Community
First digit, 1 X X, means it's either 1st Switch or Module Blade Last digit, X X 1, means it's the first port

- Understanding SPAN,RSPAN,and ERSPAN - Cisco Community
On the switch that contains the destination port for the session, traffic from the RSPAN session VLAN is simply mirrored out the destination port Encapsulated remote SPAN (ERSPAN): encapsulated Remote SPAN (ERSPAN), as the name says, brings generic routing encapsulation (GRE) for all captured traffic and allows it to be extended across Layer 3
- suspended Interfaces status - Cisco Community
Typically if all of the ports in the etherchannel went into a suspended state it's because of a mismatched control protocol or a mismatch with the port-channel interface configuration On some devices the default behavior for a port-channel is a routed interface, so adding the "switchport" to the port-channel interface is sometimes required
